Grandma’s tried and true classic meatball recipe. They’re juicy, flavorful and slathered in tomato sauce. They’ll be the star of any Italian dish you serve; meatball sub sandwiches, on buttered noodles, or simply broiled under a bed of cheese.

Classic Meatballs

Grandma's tried and true meatball recipe. They're juicy, flavorful and slathered in tomato sauce; ready to pair with any Italian dish.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 30 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs I used Italian style breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 small onion diced small
  • 1/2 cup milk or less depending on desired consistency
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions
 

  • Mix everything together in a large bowl, careful not to overwork.
  • Form meatballs into whatever size you desire.
  • Place on parchment paper.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes, depending on size
  • Remove from oven.
  • In a large wide saucepan or dutch oven, heat up 1 - 1.5 quarts tomato sauce.
  • Simmer meatballs in sauce for up to one hour.
  • Use as desired - on meatball subs, buttered noodles, lathered in cheese, etc.
