This classic recipe takes only a few steps, which makes it a perfect recipe and baking activity for kids.

I use a 11×17 jelly roll pan, so really its like a Texas pumpkin sheet cake. Two 9×13 inch pans would also work well.

The Perfect Cream Cheese Frosting Ingredients

  • Cream Cheese
  • Softened Butter
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Vanilla Paste

Throw everything in a stand mixer and whip until smooth and creamy.

Old Fashioned Pumpkin Bars

The ultimate Fall Dessert! An oversized tray of easy pumpkin bars slathered in cream cheese frosting. It's a tried and true classic.

Cook Time 25 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup neutral oil
  • 16 ounces canned pumpkin
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup butter softened to room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk add more for desired consistency

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Whisk wet ingredients together - oil, eggs and pumpkin
  • Add dry ingredients and stir well
  • Grease a 11x17 inch jelly roll pan or two 9x13 pans
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean
  • Cool completely on wire rack before frosting
  • With an electric mixer, whisk together all ingredients.
  • Frost immediately.
